Jamail & Smith Construction Giving Back to the Community

At Jamail & Smith Construction, we strive to improve the lives of everyone we meet. Our clients receive one-on-one attention to ensure that we address the specific needs that come with their organizational goals. We consistently check in with our subcontractors throughout the year to make sure they are satisfied with the relationship they have with us because we understand that they are the backbone of our work. We have numerous employee activities and events throughout the year, including our healthy living initiative, because we know that the most productive employees are the ones who are happy and healthy. Our clients, subs and employees are people we come into contact with on a daily basis; however, there is a group of people who are somewhat in the background, yet play the most significant role of all: the community.

The communities throughout Texas that we call home have embraced us with open arms, and we feel it is our duty to show them how much we appreciate their support. Jamail & Smith Construction sponsors numerous events, scholarship funds and organizations every year as a thank you to everyone in the communities in which we live and work - Houston, Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio, Galveston and Killeen. After all, these communities have helped us develop into a leading Texas contractor over the past 30 years. Below are just a handful of the organizations we have partnered with and supported recently:
  • J&S was the title sponsor of the SMPS (Society for Marketing Professional Services) San Antonio Celebrity Putting After Dark Tournament in March. The event raised $8,000 to support the UTSA Department of Communication SMPS scholarship fund.
  • J&S was a sponsor for the Ducks Unlimited  banquet on April 26 at The Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston.
  • The J&S Austin office participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas Bowl for Kids Sake for the 5th year in a row, benefitting kids in the local community.
  • J&S participated in and sponsored the American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE) saltwater fishing tournament in Galveston on June 1, which generated more than $40,000 towards children’s charities. This was the organization’s second largest tournament with several hundred pounds of fish donated to local area food banks.
  • J&S was a corporate sponsor for the Texas Legislative Black Caucus Juneteenth Celebration held at the Moody Gardens Hotel on June 11.
  • Jason Gillespie, Jamail & Smith Construction project manager, and his family built a home during spring break this year for a family in need in Mission, Texas. With the help of donations from two subcontractors that work with J&S in Dallas, the Gillespie family and their church construction crew were able to provide a single father with a new home, a shop for doing his work, an air compressor, a nail gun and a 6-month supply of nails.
  • The J&S Houston office donated several cases of canned goods, along with numerous door prizes, to Herrera Elementary in Houston ISD for their canned food drive. J&S was a sponsor for the Association of Commercial Real Estate Professionals (ACRP) Annual Golf Tournament and for the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership (BAHEP) Annual Golf Tournament in November 2011.
  • J&S employees participated in the 2011 Annual Lures & Leaders fishing tournament. Proceeds from the tournament supported The Women’s Resource of Greater Houston, Camp for All, and Sea Center Texas organizations.
  • J&S hosts a toy drive every December. In 2011, we collected a total of 204 toys: 98 from corporate for Toys for Tots, 58 from Austin for Operation Blue Santa and 48 from Houston for the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
