About Us

Established in 1982, Jamail & Smith Construction has been a major contributor to the Texas construction industry for 30 years. Our founder and president, Jim Jamail, is a third generation construction professional in the Houston business community and has over 30 years of experience in the industry. Gregory Smith, PE joined Jamail & Smith Construction in 2001 bringing with him 20 years of professional engineering and construction experience.  Our firm began constructing shopping centers and retail facilities in 1982 and continues to serve many of those same clients today. Throughout the 1980s we also performed work for public sector clients both in disaster recovery efforts and renovation projects.  During the 1990s, we honed our skills in performing facility renovation and repair as leaders in job order contracting (JOC). Over the last decade, we have focused not only on JOC but have dedicated a team specialized in new commercial construction projects. Today, our specialties are categorized into three areas: job order contracting (JOC), specialty healthcare and retail construction.

Jamail & Smith Construction continues to diversify our projects and develop our infrastructure in order to consistently exceed our clients’ expectations. We are currently performing Job Order Contracting services for more than 20 higher education, K-12 school districts, hospitals, counties and cities in which we provide on-call renovation and repair services. Our Specialty Healthcare division is constructing skilled nursing and assisted living centers across the state, while also helping the facility owners find funding sources and obtain necessary certificates. Our Retail division is helping businesses expand into new regions through the construction of new offices, restaurants, churches, banks and retail stores.

Jamail & Smith Construction has a long history of commitment to safety, which has led to numerous awards from clients and leading industry organizations for outstanding safety performance and best practices. Recognition includes: Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc. Gold Medal of Safety Excellence in 2005 and STEP Platinum Achievement Award for Safety Excellence for 2006 - 2011.
